Giancarlo Esposito is on a roll lately. Or maybe it’s more that, after his outstanding performance on AMC’s Breaking Bad, various shows are looking to borrow some of his talent. He’s appeared in a recurring role on ABC’s storybook drama Once Upon a Time, and those of us who are eagerly awaiting the return of Community will see him in an upcoming episode of the NBC comedy series.
Esposito’s proven his ability to take on characters with a bit of mystery and power behind them, and that may serve him well in the role he’s set to play in the NBC pilot Revolution. From JJ Abrams and Eric Kripke (and directed by Jon Favreau), Revolution is described as an action-drama, and follows a group of people who are trying to reunite with their loved ones after “all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.” According to Deadline, Esposito has been cast in the role of Captain Neville, “a hard-as-steel military man with a genteel southern manner who may not always be what he seems.”
This sounds like a role that’s right up Esposito’s alley, given what we’ve seen from him in past TV appearances. And given Abrams (Lost, Alias) and Kripke's (Supernatural) involvement, with Favreau (Iron Man) directing as a bonus, this pilot is definitely shaping up to be one of the more promising sounding dramas of the bunch. While we wait to see how things go for Revolution, we may get to see his funny side when he appears in Community.
