A Cartoon Combustion On Cartoon Network

Like a modern day ark rescuing children and adults alike from the floods of boredom, Cartoon Network has packed every kind of toon imaginable in its roster. Despite the ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ fiasco that forced the network head to resign, CN recently announced its lineup of new and returning shows for 2007. Caution: even if those blinking box thingies in Boston weren’t actually explosive, this new smörgåsbord of animation is (figuratively, of course):

Jack Black’s summer 2006 hit Nacho Libre seems to have influenced someone at CN as toon ‘Santo’ will detail the exploits of a Mexican wrester who fights crime. ‘Chowder’ will serve up a chef’s apprentice magical journey through the city Marzipan.

Shhh! ‘The Secret Saturday’ is a comedy action series about a family of scientists who save the world. New series ‘The Marvelous Adventures of Flapjack’ will make landlubbers wary with its plot about a pirate and a talking whale. ‘Re-animated’ returns, a show about a boy who gets a brain transplant that allows him to see cartoon characters in real life.

Beware the alien invasion in ‘Cartoon Network Invaded.’ That experiment will cross over into ‘Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends,’ ‘Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy,’ ‘My Gym Partner's a Monkey,’ ‘Camp Lazlo,’ and ‘The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.’

Sixteen kids with awesome skills will have their chance to earn ‘Props’ in an ‘American Idol-esque’ contest. Finalists will be pitted against one another in a face-off challenge where online voters determine the winner. ‘Class of 3000’ will also be in session for its third season this year as well.

According to TV.com, CN also has a crazy cool tech service to offer fans named Call Toons. It allows cell phone users to replace their boring old ring tones by downloading the voices and sounds of their favorite show characters.

Even if Cartoon Network classic ‘Space Ghost Coast to Coast’ (originally a Hanna-Barbera toon on CBS) ended in ’04, these new toons are sure to appeal to the network’s ever growing audience. Speaking of which, here’s a clip of Tad Ghoastal interviewing a guy who (gasp!) achieved a perfect score in Pac-Man and a million points in Donkey Kong:
