Community Preview: Season 3, Episode 19 - Curriculum Unavailable

Tonight is the second to last week of the season for Community, because NBC has decided to air all three remaining episodes of the season, hopefully not series, next Thursday. And while we still await firm word on the renewal, amongst whispers of a green-lit but shortened fourth season, there is the not so little matter of the group's expulsion. "Course Unavailable" saw both the final farewell to Star-Burns (Alex) as well as them getting the boot at the hands of a pretendean. Nailed it. This week follows with the aptly titled "Curriculum Unavailable," since it not only marks it as a continuation of "Course" but, well, it's also pretty much the definition of expelled.

"Curriculum Unavailable" has the group dealing with the fallout of the bad news, particularly how they perceive it to be affecting Abed. Of course, he's the only one seeing things clearly as he's (rightfully) convinced of the existence of a conspiracy at Greendale, and that Dean Pelton isn't, well the real Dean Pelton. Abed is caught sneaking around campus and then forced to see a therapist or risk going to jail. The Daily Show's John Hodgman guest stars as said therapist, Dr. Heidi, and if his appearances on HBO's Bored to Death are any indication, we're probably in for a good time on the couch.

Okay. Judging by this photo, maybe not... Perhaps the video evidence will be more inspiring?

The first clip shows the group trying to be optimistic but coming across as more than a little despondent since the expulsion two months ago. WAIT. What? Two months have passed since the last episode but, like Shirley says, at least they are still getting together for put lucks, just like Pierce suggested. Troy's dish sounds delicious, Jeff is busy texting as usual and Britta is craving organics to battle a hangover but conspicuously absent from the arrangement is our man Abed.

The second clip finds Abed at his first therapy session because he's not being his usual cute weird but instead been acting all creepy weird ever since the group was expelled from Greendale. However, Abed is steadfast in his belief that he's not crazy and doesn't need therapy (and we know he's right, yay dramatic irony) but the group has forced him to see Dr. Heidi, and his unwanted assistant Psych major Britta. And group therapy might be the better word for it since they all accompany him anyway. Of course.

Community airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on NBC. It stars Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Chevy Chase. It was created by Dan Harmon.
