Derek Luke Added To CBS' Second Sight Pilot
Derek Luke has been cast in CBS’ drama pilot, Second Sight, opposite Jason Lee. Second Sight will follow a department of detectives who work together to solve crimes, and Luke will join the team as a new detective named Paul Giroux who happens to be the newbie on the team.
Deadline first reported the news, noting that Luke’s character will be a co-star in the pilot, which at first glance sounds like a basic procedural, but should run a little deeper. Second Sight will actually star Lee as the lead detective in the unit who has an unusual problem. An ocular difficulty has caused Lee’s character, Tanner, to start having hallucinations which, in fact, may help Tanner and his team to crack cases.
Luke and Lee aren’t the only ones to have joined Second Sight, although they are the only two actors who have been signed on so far that have first names for last names. Additionally, Treme’s Kim Dickens has also joined Second Sight as a detective.
Luke has kind of bounced around in the acting world, appearing in HawthoRNe in 2011. He most recently had a really great guest stint on The Americans as a passionate and street smart agent for the Russians. I’ve always liked Luke as an actor and think he would be a great fit for a cop drama. With CBS’ propensity for picking up procedurals and CSI’s Carol Mendelsohn set to executive produce, Second Sight has a great chance of moving forward at the network and we’ll let you know if and when CBS decides to bring the pilot to series.
