You would think if CSI showrunner Carol Mendelsohn pitched a sellable product to a network they’d be slipping and sliding around trying to get it cast as quickly as possilble. Which is why it seemed a little bit suspect when we did not hear from Widow Detective after January, when CBS picked up the show to pilot. Maybe it is the title that is throwing the network off.

Widow Detective not to be confused with popular children’s tale The Widow’s Broom, will follow a prominent police detective who has lost three partners during his tenure on the job. In the time after, the detective has basically implanted himself into his former partner’s family lives, helping to parent the children and stepping into a husband role with each of the wives. Now, Deadline is reporting John Corbett will fulfill the role of the detective protagonist, Denny Brennan.

Corbett is no stranger to odd projects. He finished his tenure on wacky multi-personality drama United States of Tara just last year. He has also played a recurring role as problematic parent with a drug issue on NBC’s Parenthood over the past few seasons. Suffice to say, it has been a while since we have seen the main focus of a TV program be on the 50-year-old actor. It will be nice to see how Corbett steps up to the plate to take on the role of a man at the head of multiple families.
