Melanie Griffith To Star On Lifetime's American Housewife

Lifetime is always good for an over-the-top dramatic role from some fairly high-notched actresses. Hayden Panettiere got to play Amanda Knox in the made-for-TV film Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy. Laura Prepon gets to play a forensic sculptor who is approached by her daughter’s murder on October 30th. Now, Melanie Griffith is set to join the long line of females gracing Lifetime’s primetime. She’ll star in a brand new television pilot for the channel about a housewife living the American dream. That is, until strange events begin to occur – namely, the housewife will begin to hear an inner voice. The program will aptly be titled American Housewife.

Griffith will not only be earning some acting credits for her role on the Lifetime drama. She is also expected to executive produce the pilot. She won’t have to do it alone. Griffith will be joined in executive producing by her handsome-for-an-older-man hubby, Antonio Banderas. Hopefully, he’ll even show up on a few episodes. C’mon Antonio, it would be good for ratings. According to THR, Erik Jendreson, who penned several episodes of HBO’s Band of Brothers is writing the project. David Slade, of Eclipse fame, is set to direct.

The last time we saw Griffith star on a television program was on the short lived CBS program Viva Laughlin in 2007, although the actress did appear for longer on the WB’s Twins from 2005-2006. Here’s to hoping a cable project will be kinder to Griffith, a trooper of an actress over the years.
