In a recent preview for their 2013 movies and programming, HBO gave us a few glimpses of its upcoming biopic about Liberace. Behind the Candleabra stars Michael Douglas as the flamboyant piano playing star, and Matt Damon as his younger lover Scott Thorson. Grab your shades, there is some serious bling ahead.

Glitter, glamour and furs are what Liberace is known for, perhaps even more than his gift for playing the piano, and HBO won’t disappoint in that department. Bleeding Cool pulled some screenshots from HBO’s year-end video that teases 2013 programming. Michael Douglas is in full regalia as Liberace, shown wearing a fur stole and at the piano in a glittering suit (the piano is equally glittery). I have to say, I think Douglas has Liberace down.

We’ve got a good look at Matt Damon as well, although his clothes aren’t quite as squint inducing as Douglas’, he’s still looking the part in a sequin lined suit and cap, and lipstick in a lovely shade of pink. HBO certainly seems to have captured the essence of the Liberace era in this movie, at least from what we’ve seen so far.

HBO has been raising the bar for TV movies with some serious star power. In addition to Douglas and Damon in Behind the Candleabra, they’ve got Al Pacino starring in another biopic for 2013, Phil Spector. We’ll be on the lookout for an airdate for Behind the Candleabra.
