As USA is set to premiere the new seasons of ‘Monk’ and ‘Psych’ tonight (Friday 7/13), the network has been kind enough to give fans of the shows something to do to keep busy. While ‘Psych’ fans will be able to create fan videos using a fairly simple flash-based drag-and-drop set-up, ‘Monk’ fans are being invited to upload photographs of the infamous ‘Monk’ bobble-head posing around the country.
Monk Across America
If you’re a die-hard ‘Monk’ fan and own a ‘Monk’ bobble-head (and a digital camera), you can contribute a photo to the Monk Across America website. Whether it’s Monk in New York City or Monk hanging out in some small town in the middle of Arkansas, post a picture of your Monk bobble-head posing anywhere. You can also view and rate the other submissions. For some reason I’m not sure which is funnier, the actual photographs of the ‘Monk’ bobble-head posed in front of places like the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden or the idea of someone actually taking that thing out in public, finding a place to display it and snapping a picture.

’Psych’ Mashup
Anyone with the ability to capture TV shows on their computer, a decent film editing program, a bit of creativity and a moderate amount of computer savvy-ness can create a fan video for their favorite show. USA has simplified the process considerably with their ‘Pysch’ Mashup website. The website has pre-cut clips of all of the main characters as well as music. Fans can piece together their video by dragging the clips into a timeline. The benefit of this is that since everything is all laid out, all people have to do is decide what clips they want to use and set it to some music. The downside of this as opposed to the usual way of making videos is that the selection of clips and music is somewhat limited so eventually all of the fan-created mashups are going to start to look the same. Either way, it’s a fun little time-waster. If you don’t feel like creating your own mashup, check out one of the many user-made videos already up there.
