Neighbors From Hell Review: TBS Animated Comedy

TBS is set to premiere the first episode of Neighbors from Hell, tomorrow (Monday, June 7th at 10:00 p.m.). After viewing the premiere episode, I'm thinking the series will appear to fans of Fox's Sunday night animated comedies (The Simpsons, Family Guy).

Featuring the voices of Molly Shannon, Will Sasso and Patton Oswalt, Neighbors from Hell follows a family of demons who are sent to earth to stop a drilling company that’s getting very close to drilling its way right to hell. Armed with the knowledge gained from watching corny ‘80’s sitcoms, the Hellmans move into a suburban area and attempt to fit in among them while Balthazor, the leader of the Hellman family, takes a job at the drilling company in an effort to sabotage their digging plans and keep hell safe.

The humor in this show is definitely adult oriented. Expect a lot of off color jokes that might be offensive to the more racial/culturally sensitive viewer. Balthazor’s boss is as politically incorrect as it gets. In fact, by comparison, Balthazor’s probably a lot more humane as a demon than his boss is as a man. That’s part of the charm of Balthazor’s character though. Perhaps his indulgence in mind-rotting TV during the course of his life in hell has softened him, or maybe he was an old softy before that (it would explain his preference for shows like Growing Pains and Family Ties), but we come to learn in the first episode that demon or not, he’s not such a bad guy.

Neighbors from Hell has its laugh-out-loud moments and clever lines, thanks in part to the quirky nature of each member of the Hellman family, including the dog, as well as the wacky people they’re living and working around.

Fans of shows like South Park, The Simpsons and Family Guy will want to check out Neighbors from Hell when it premieres Monday, June 7th at 10:00 p.m. ET on TBS.
