Sometimes all it takes is a good idea and a little perseverance. Notice I didn't say a lot, because Justin Halpern launched his Twitter account, Shit My Dad Says, only this past August. Already he has a book deal based on it, and now The Hollywood Reporter tells us CBS has picked up Shit My Dad Says as a sitcom.
It must be a whirlwind for Halpern, who three months ago had just moved back in with his parents and struck upon the idea of chronicling all the weird things his 73-year-old father had to say. I'm hoping his father's getting a piece of the action.
The series will be executive produce and supervised as a multicamera sitcom by the creators of Will & Grace, David Kohan and Max Mutchnick. Halpern is on board as a co-writer with Patrick Schumacker. The series will transform the pearls of wisdom on Twitter into a more traditional family sitcom, probably based at least somewhat on Halpern's situation when he moved back home.
You can start picking your old actors to star as Halpern's acerbic father. It's a shame Peter Boyle passed away, as he would be perfect in this. Oh, and in case it wasn't obvious, The Hollywood Reporter made sure to mention (in it's own paragraph) that if the show does get picked up, it wouldn't be called Shit My Dad Says.
