Spartacus: Blood And Sand Marathon To Air On Starz In Memory Of Andy Whitfield

In the wake of the very unfortunate passing of actor Andy Whitfield, Starz is paying tribute to the actor with a marathon of Spartacus episodes, set to air at the beginning of October. What better way for fans to remember the man than by celebrating the series that showcased his talent?

The marathon will consist of five episodes from Spartacus: Blood and Sand and will air on Sunday, October 2nd at 9:00 p.m. Nine o’clock at night seems like a pretty late start for a five-hour marathon, but there you have it. Exactly which episodes will be featured, Starz didn’t say, however they did mention that they would be “fan Favorite episodes to showcase his most memorable performances.”

If I had to choose five excellent episodes from Blood and Sand, I’d go with “The Thing in the Pit,” “Whore,” Shadow Games,” “Party Favors,” and of course, the grand finale, “Kill Them All.” “Shadow Games” was an especially great episode for Whitfield, as this was the one where Spartacus really began to emerge as a champion. Meanwhile, “Party Favors” was the episode that put the sword to Varro’s neck. It was an unfortunate scene, but a brilliant one none-the-less and Whitfield played everything perfectly.

While January will take the series forward with Liam McIntyre set to fill Whitfield’s shoes as the title character, now is a great time to look back and celebrate Whitfield’s contribution to the excellent show and the entertainment industry. He really will be missed.
