Spartacus Vengeance Preview: Episode 3 - Seppia And Ilithyia Banter

One of my favorite dynamics in Spartacus: Blood and Sand was the relationship between Lucretia and Ilithyia. Frenemies through and through, it was great to see Lucretia squirm while Ilithyia giggled and smirked with glee while saying some veiled remark. All the upper-class women seem sort of catty that way. I’m pretty sure it’s what ultimately led to Licinia getting her face smashed against the marble. Regardless, the dynamic between Lucretia and Ilithyia has chanced and it seems like something similar is building with Seppia.

Seppia’s young and seems to enjoy being wealthy and beautiful, a trait she shares with Ilithyia. But she also seems to like to like making little comments that suggests she either feels sorry for Ilithyia or simply that she just thinks she’s better. We saw a little bit of it in last week’s episode, and based on the clip below, there’s more to come...

I just love the way Seppia is gorging on that food. Not a care in the world.

I don’t know where this is leading, or if this is just how Seppia is, but I love it. The question is, how long will Ilithyia put up with it? Right now, despite his like of Seppius, Glaber is trying to work with Seppia’s brother. We know Ilithiya is prone to rage and doesn't love being slighted. Could a confrontation be in their future? That’s probably thinking much further down the line though. Something tells me the tension will continue to heighten between these two, but if it comes to a showdown, my money’s on Ilithyia.

Spartacus: Vengeance airs Fridays at 10:00 p.m. on Starz.
