CBS premiered the first episode of Brian K. Vaughan's TV adaptation of Stephen King's Under the Dome last night, introducing us to the residents of Chester's Mill, a small town that's suddenly and mysteriously encapsulated by a giant dome, confining all residents and guests inside. Beyond the thrilling moment when the dome dropped down, the episode also introduced a number of characters to the story, and based on the preview, it looks like the mayhem is only just beginning. Episode 2 is ominously titled "The Fire," and will see the the panic heightened when a house goes up in flames. That could prove to be a pretty major problem, considering we already know that the fire department is on the outside of the dome.
Figuring out how to deal with issues like that will likely play a pretty crucial role in the series in its first season. And there's definite potential for excitement, suspense and drama. The following still from "The Fire" teases a bit of that:
And here's a look at Jim Rennie and Linda, along with some other residents as they stare ahead, possibly watching the house burn and not knowing what to do about it.
And the fire may be what Julia is photographing here. It looks like Barbie is also there, hopefully coming up with some kind of solution to get the flames put out before they spread. Let's hope someone comes up with something soon, or this situation could get out of hand fast.
The preview video also teases a confrontation between Junior and Barbie. Is it too much to hope that Barbie might have noticed that Angie has gone missing? Maybe her brother Joe brought it to his attention. Just a bit of speculation. The fire looks like a big event for Chester's Mill, but let's not forget that there's a girl out there chained up in some guy's bunker.
We offer a full breakdown of the series premiere here.
Those Amazon Prime subscribers who missed the first episode, or who want to rewatch it should have the opportunity to do that this Friday, June 28, when the first episode will be available streaming. In the meantime, here's a clip from the pilot that revisits the moment when the dome dropped down and one cow was split in two.
Under the Dome airs Monday night at 10:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
Here's CBS' officially released preview, which includes a few new snippets not featured in the post-premiere preview.
