As a fan of all the chair-swiveling that goes on during the earlier episodes of NBC's singing competition The Voice, I consider it good news to learn that NBC is set to offer a triple-dose of the musical show next week. But the downside to this news is that the third episode will present an overlap with a certain other singing competition series.

NBC announced today that they're tacking on a third episode to The Voice's Season 3 premiere week. The first three episode of the series will air on Monday (Sept. 10 at 8-10 p.m.), Tuesday (Sept. 11 at 8-9 p.m.) and Wednesday (Sept. 12 at 8-9 p.m.). The Wednesday episode will pose some opposition to Fox's premiere of the second season of The X Factor, which kicks off Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m.

Of the two series, I'd rank The Voice's audition rounds above The X Factor's. While both competitions involve a process that has four mentors working with various aspiring singers, The Voice has the added appeal of the Blind Audition process, which has the judges seated in chairs, with their backs facing the auditioners. They turn their chair around if they want to work with that singer, based on the person's voice alone, and if more than one judge turns, the auditioner decides which mentor they want to work with.

As fun as the Blind Auditions are, The X Factor has undergone a number of changes, including replacing judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato. With The Voice already having aired two episodes by the time The X Factor's second season premieres, I could see fans of both shows choosing to watch The X Factor live (and DVR The Voice) to see how Fox's big premiere goes. There's also the matter of the host (or hosts). Steve Jones won't be hosting The X Factor for Season 2, and while there have been rumors about replacements and the possibility of two co-hosts taking the stage, nothing official has been announced. Perhaps Fox is saving that information until closer to the premiere. With one week to go, I expect we'll hear something soon. In the meantime, anticipate a lot of singing on network TV next week no matter what!
