The Walking Dead will definitely be a highlight of this year's San Diego Comic Convention and probably in two formats, the original Robert Kirkman series by Image Comics as well as the television adaptation from AMC. Fans of both, however, are obviously in for a very special treat. The network sure hasn't been shy when it comes to promoting their presence at SDCC or the upcoming season for that matter (two zombies, one bullet), planning a preview weekend as well as releasing some Season 3 photos.

Comedian Drew Carey was just added to the live Talking Dead broadcast that will wrap up the preview weekend (which consists of all 19 episodes) before an airing of the The Walking Dead pilot in black and white. The pilot, “Days Gone Bye,” was drained of its color to give fans of the comic a more familiar look at their beloved series ("TWD" is a black and white series) and sounds like a pretty amazing build-up for Comic-Con.

AMC just released the first official poster for their Walking Dead SDCC presence (via ScreenCrush) and the combination of images is surprisingly revealing, especially for those who have read Kirkman's comic. Take a look...

The Walking Dead poster features Rick front and center, while the two most significant additions to the show for Season 3, Michonne (Danai Gurira) and The Governor (David Morrissey), can be seen on either side. You'll also notice a helicopter flying above the the Gov's shoulder and viewers should remember two such sightings in previous episodes, the first all the way back in the pilot and the second at the end of last season during the finale “Beside the Dying Fire” which caused a sea of walkers to come to the Farm.

(SPOILERS!) Comic readers will also know that a crashing helicopter is what leads our heroes to their first encounter with The Governor in Woodbury. Also, (BIGGER SPOILER!) you may want to think about what parts of Rick they aren't showing. (End Spoilers)

The Walking Dead Season 3 Preview Weekend is this Saturday and Sunday (July 7-8), starting at 11:30 a.m. ET each day. The Talking Dead live special airs at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday followed by the black and white The Walking Dead pilot at 10, all on AMC. The SDCC panel is Friday, July 13 from 1:25 p.m. to 2:25 p.m in Hall H. Season 3 begins this Fall.
