The Walking Dead isn’t returning to the schedule until the fall, and while fans can currently tune in to AMC’s other zombie series Fear The Walking Dead, it’s just not the same thing. Although it might be some time before we start hearing news regarding The Walking Dead Season 7, this week we learned that the show’s creators have something special planned for fans. Namely, Robert Kirkman and Scott M. Gimple are heading to Adult Swim, specifically Robot Chicken, to come up with a special Walking Dead-oriented episode.
Adult Swim broke the news during the network’s upfronts this week, noting that Robert Kirkman and Scott M. Gimple have joined forces with Robot Chicken’s Seth Green and Matthew Senreich and their Stoopid Buddy Stoodios partners, John Harvatine IV and Eric Towner, to produce a half-hour special for the animated comedy block. We don’t know much about the special, but we do know it will feature an animated zombie apocalypse. Really, what else could we possibly need to know to get excited about the prospect? Still, we'll let you know when more details about the special emerge.
Robot Chicken has been a popular Adult Swim program for eight seasons. Its stop motion animation format and general quirkiness have landed it a loyal fanbase and even earned it the occasional Emmy Award. A ton of episodes have been produced, but the show has also become popular for creating amusing specials focusing on various pop culture properties. There was an awesome DC Comics-related special back in 2012, and there have been several additional specials based on Star Wars that have aired, as well.
In addition to all of the fun Robot Chicken news, Adult Swim also mentioned the Samurai Jack revival we heard about before the holidays is still coming together and new half-hour episodes will be produced as part of the upcoming programming slate. Along with Samurai Jack, we'll also be getting new episodes of Rick and Morty and The Eric Andre Show. Dream Corp, LLC, Million Dollar Extreme Presents: World Peace and Brad Neely’s Harg Nallin’ Sclopio Peepio are all newbie programs heading to the channel when Adult Swim takes over at 8 p.m. In addition, Adult Swim has streaming programming available during daytime hours over at the network’s site.
As far as The Walking Dead itself goes, the show has already been renewed for Season 7, which means that cliffhanger ending will definitely be resolved, and hopefully even spoofed during the Robot Chicken special. If you are interested in what else is coming up on TWD, you can check out what we know. In addition, here’s what the networks have coming to TV this summer.
