The Walking Dead will be back for the first part of its third season in a little more than a month. AMC released the key art for this season, which once again focuses on the lead character in Robert Kirkman's story, and offers a glimpse of the new setting for the story, which fans of the comics are greatly anticipating.

Season 2 had the surviving characters abandoning the farm (yay) and set off for parts unknown, at least to them. The second season ended with a glimpse of the prison, a setting featured in the comics on which the AMC zombie-drama is based. And the prison is featured here in this new poster for The Walking Dead Season 3. We also see Rick standing his ground (and standing on an overturned bus) and looking defensive as he points a gun to something (or someone) out of the shot.

As always, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) looks brave and determined. He's standing under the caption, "Fight the dead. Fear the living." The walkers continue to be an obstacle for the survivors, but the "fear the living" is an interesting add on. Rick and his people have already had encounters with other survivors who have posed a threat to their safety and wellbeing. Season 3 will introduce the Governor and his own people, which from what I hear, is adds an added layer of conflict to the story. The living may prove to be just as threatening as the dead.

The third season of The Walking Dead will consist of 16 episodes, the first eight of which will air this fall (beginning Sunday, October 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on AMC), with the second half of the season set to air next year (starting February 2013).
