Hulk Director Drops Even More Hints From Trailer

Hulk Director Drops Even More Hints From Trailer It still seems way, way too early for a new Hulk movie, since pretty much no one has forgotten Ang Lee’s misfire that put everyone to sleep. But with new trailer out on the Internet and the buzz for this movie growing, it’s hard to deny that there’s excitement out there. I mean, it’s the Hulk! He’s big and green and angry. What’s not to love!

In tandem with the new trailer, which you can see in all its glory here, director Louis Leterrier released a commentary which clears up some of the questions brought up by the trailer. io9 has all the good stuff written down, including an admission that, yeah, trailers really do give away all the good stuff.

First of all, the big confrontation you see between Hulk and The Abomination at the end of the trailer? Yeah, that’s the end of the movie too. You didn’t think you’d get the big conflict in the first hour, did you? But what’s different about this one, it seems, is that that final battle takes place over half an hour. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that’s longer than the finale of Spider-Man 3, and that was against three villains.

The other most important detail is that this will not be an origin story—Bruce transforms into the Hulk within the first three minutes of the film, and the main struggle is seeing him try to reign in and control his powers (you hear a lot about this in the trailer, too). And General Ross (William Hurt), who you also see a bit of in the trailer, is not just trying to get the Hulk to power the military—he’s obsessed with tracking down the Hulk. As io9 puts it, “He’s all Ahab-like.”

There’s plenty more details over there, which are definitely worth checking. I remain of the belief that this might turn out to be one of the biggest flops of the summer, especially if Edward Norton keeps fighting with the studio over final cut, but I’m a bit more intrigued. I mean, you show me two monsters duking it out and expect me to be bored?
