Amazing Spider-Man 2 Director Reveals B.J. Novak's Character's Identity
At this stage in the game we know who most of the actors are playing in Marc Webb's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but there are still some stars who remain interesting question marks. B.J. Novak is a great example of this. The Office star was revealed as being a part of the superhero movie in March of last year when Webb Tweeted the image you see above to his fans, but the director failed to mention exactly who Novak would be playing. Today Webb finally answered the riddle.
Helping to promote a new book that Novak wrote called "One More Thing," Webb sent out the following Tweet:
In addition to showing off a pretty funny trailer, this also confirms that Novak will be playing the villain Alistair Smythe in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
For those unfamiliar with the character from the comics, Smythe was created by Louise Simonson and Mary Wilshire back in 1985 is clasically known as the creator of the Spider-Slayers, a team of robots designed to search for and destroy Spider-Man. He is typically drawn using a wheelchair, having lost the use of his legs, but also has a history of physically changing himself using technology, both through robotics and biology. Those of you who watched the animated Spider-Man series from the 90s will probably remember him as one of the right-hand men of Kingpin, though it's more likely he will be working for Oscorp in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The character was also featured as one of the big bosses in the video game that was adapted from Marc Webb's first Amazing Spider-Man movie:
How do you think the inclusion of Alistair Smythe changes the direction of the story in The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Do you hope that we may one day get to see the Spider-Slayers - or even the Ultimate Spider Slayer - on the big screen? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
