The Amazing Spider-Man 2's First Trailer To Debut With The Hobbit

Thanks to his efforts towards building the villainous team known as the Sinister Six in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, director Marc Webb is certainly not lacking in any kind of nerd cred, but today he has earned himself some big points. Much in the same way that he did constantly through the shooting of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this past summer, the filmmaker has taken to his Twitter account to announce that the first ever trailer for the new web-slinging wall-crawler movie will be in theaters with The Hobbit 3D this December... and he did so speaking in Dwarven runes (click the image below to see it full size):

Sadly, this means that we still have a good long while to wait before we get to see any footage from the superhero sequel. While this Friday will see the calendar turn over to November (where did this year go?), Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug won't be in theaters until December 13th - meaning that we have more than six full weeks to wait before the trailer arrives in theaters. Presumably the preview will be online before its theatrical release, but attached to the next Middle-earth film will be the only place to see it in 3D.

Based on a script written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 picks up with the titular character (Andrew Garfield) settling into his heroic ways while also trying to balance his life as Peter Parker and keep his promise to stay away from Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). His life starts rapidly changing, however, when an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns to town, Peter discovers more information about his parents' disappearance and a new supervillain known as Electro (Jamie Foxx) arrives on the scene. Also set to star in the film is Chris Cooper as the villainous Norman Osborn (a.k.a. The Green Goblin), Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, Sally Field as Aunt May, and Colm Feore, B.J. Novak, and Sarah Gadon in unspecified roles.

Of course, the footage that arrives in the trailer won't be the first that's ever been debuted. This past summer at San Diego Comic-Con there was an Amazing Spider-Man 2 panel that our own Sean O'Connell was present for. Check out his breakdown of what he saw in the video below, and to read more about the movie be sure to check out his interviews with Webb and producer Matt Tolmach.
