Avengers Assembled By Jon Favreau? image
I’m barely interested in the now delayed by strike Warner Bros produced Justice League of America movie, normally that’d mean I have no interest at all in someone making a movie out of their inferior Marvel comics counterparts, The Avengers. But then JLA sounds like a made on the cheap movie full of spare parts while The Avengers may end up being directed by none other than Elf and Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau.

Favs recently told MTV that not only does he think an Avengers movie is a good idea, he’d like to direct it. Unfortunately, he may have awhile to wait. He says that unlike what’s happening with the DC comics characters being shoved into JLA, Marvel will only allow The Avengers movie to be made after all the individual superhero characters who are part of the team-up have already had a solo movie.

The really brilliant thing here though is that, again, unlike what the WB is doing to the JLA movie, Favs says Marvel wants to use the actors from the solo movies as part of the Avengers team up movie. Favreau reveals, “in the case of Marvel they’re pretty clear on wanting to do it with the actors who’ve established the roles or to not do it at all. That’s what they’ve said to me,” he continued. “I think it’s a good idea if you use the characters established in the other franchises that then come together for an event. I don’t think they would do it like they’re doing ‘Justice League’ where it’s a whole different set of actors and a whole different take on the world.”

Iron Man and Hulk are already set with solo flicks, but they have a way to go if they want to assemble the rest of the Avengers. The composition of the Avengers team has always varied, but at least I think we’d need to see solo movies for Captain America< and Thor before an Avengers movie could go ahead under those circumstances. And what about lesser heroes like Ant-Man and Wasp? I’d love to see them in an Avengers movie, but I can’t imagine sitting through an entire movie focused on each of those characters just to get them involved in a team-up. Ghost Rider was bad enough. Can we just throw him on the team, since his movie is already done? Or what about working in Spider-Man? How about it Marvel? Let's get this project going. Show JLA how it's done.
