Bilbo Receives A Special Weapon In First Full Clip From The Hobbit
The Hobbit is coming! The Hobbit is coming! That's a song we've been singing nonstop for months now, but it really is true now, with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey coming to theaters on December 14. And as members of the press anxiously await the moment when we'll get to see it-- you can expect reviews to arrive online in less than a week-- we're just now getting our look at the first full clip from the film, which emerged online today.
And, as in any good prequel, this clip sets up a prop that should be very familiar to fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. Take a look below as Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is handed a weapon that will be very useful to him... and eventually, his nephew Frodo.
Ah, good old Sting, so helpful for warding off orcs and the occasional giant spider too. Diehard Hobbit fans may remember that in the books, Bilbo wasn't handed the sword by Gandalf but found it in a troll hoard. It's pretty ballsy of them for them to release the first clip and have it be significantly different from the book, but maybe this is just a sign of how much changing will be happening between The Hobbit on the page and on the screen. After all, with three movies to go, they're going to have to come up with more story somehow.
