You are forgiven for possibly not being aware that Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly opens on Nov. 30. The hardboiled crime noir hasn’t received 1/10th of the promotion of a Rise of the Guardians, Skyfall, The Twilight Saga or any of the upcoming Oscar contenders. Perhaps it’s because The Weinstein Company doesn’t believe Dominik’s reunion with Brad Pitt is awards worthy, so they dropped it into the middle of one of the busiest frames in the theatrical release calendar, and are asking it to tread its own water?

The movie first screened for critics back in Cannes, then sidestepped the usual dog-and-pony show that’s part of the fall film festival circuit. Instead of playing Telluride, Venice or Toronto, Killing Them Softly opened in overseas markets, building up its bank accounts. Now it’s coming to the States, and a new trailer hit IGN, which we’re sharing with you below:

I can’t put my finger on the indifference generated by Killing Them Softly. Pitt’s usually a ton of fun playing these wild-card criminals with charisma and sarcastic attitude to burn. The supporting cast is insanely talented, making room for Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini, Scoot McNairy, and Sam Shepard. We should be able to watch them in virtually anything, right? And with Dominik behind the lens, you would imagine that Killing Them Softly, at the very least, would look gorgeous.

And yet, early reviews and feedback have been lukewarm on Softly, and “soft” describes the marketing push the studio’s giving the film as it opens in theaters. Are you still interested in it? Will you check it out once it’s open?
