Captain Jack May Have Trouble Making It 4

By Josh Tyler: 2007-02-12 02:03:53
Captain Jack May Have Trouble Making It 4 It was last September when we first heard that Disney might not be done with Pirates of the Caribbean after completing their trilogy this summer with At World’s End. Chasing more big Pirates pay outs is kind of hard for Disney to pass up. But Pirates of the Caribbean 4 may not be such a sure thing.

Terry Rossio, the guy who wrote the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, recently talked to Clint at Moviehole about the prospects of making a fourth movie. Rossio says, “It's like the fourth Indiana Jones picture. There are forces in play to make it happen, and forces in play to make it not happen. I think we will try to write a screenplay. I can't say if we'll be able to solve the challenge of making a good fourth film, or if our screenplay will be enough to get a film made.”

If Indiana Jones 4 is what we’re using as the baseline here, then it’ll be at least a decade before a Pirates 4 gets made. However, Rossio seems to place an inordinate amount of importance on his screenplay. Somehow, I don’t think Disney will care who writes it, as long as they can make more money. If Rossio’s screenplay isn’t enough to get the film made, I’m pretty sure Walt’s boys will just turn around and hire someone else. Actually, that might be the best thing that could happen to the franchise. The script has been the biggest problem with both of the Pirates movies so far. Jack Sparrow can do better.
