If you’ve read my review, you know I’m pretty high on the new Hellboy movie. What has me worried is whether or not anyone will see it. With all the hype over The Dark Knight, will moviegoers simply stay out of theaters and save their money for Batman? It’s starting to look like that may be so.
Fandango.com is reporting that ticket pre-sales for The Dark Knight now represent 71% of the total tickets being sold on their site. Second highest sales are for Hellboy II: The Golden Army, but even in second place Hellboy sales only represent a paltry 6% of their total ticket sales. Bear in mind that Hellboy II opens tomorrow and The Dark Knight won’t be anywhere near a movie theater until a full week from now. Hellboy II shouldn’t have to compete with The Dark Knight until next weekend when it opens, yet somehow it is. I feel a little sorry for Guillermo del Toro right now.
Come on people, I get that you’re excited for The Dark Knight, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore anything and everything else so you can sit home and obsess over trailers and practice putting on clown makeup. That’s not healthy. Batman will be here soon enough, until he gets here how about giving love to some other movies, especially if they’re like Hellboy II… and they deserve it.

I think the studio would be pretty happy if Hellboy 2 opened with a 30 mil take over the weekend. There's no doubt in my mind the audience will be front loaded and it has no chance to gain momentum after the 1st week!
First off, I'm a huge fan of the Hellboy comics. The biggest problem this movie faces is not the Dark Knight, it is the apathy of the comic fans towards this film. Most people I know who really like the comic were in some ways let down by the first Hellboy, and the people who didn't like the comics couldn't have cared less. It wasn't a run-away success and it really didn't seem to make any fans who weren't already aware of it. As a movie it worked well enough but as an adaptation I thought it was severely lacking. It got some things right but really went in a very X-Men direction that I didn't care for. The trailers for HB 2 haven't peaked my interest either. A review that I read of it, which was positive, said that it looked like a warm up for the Hobbit for Del Toro and I agree. It looks beautiful but the story seems a bit uninteresting. I hope it's not. I hope it exceeds all of my expectations and really breaks new ground. I just kind of doubt I'll have that reaction. I will see this movie but I'm much more excited about the Dark Knight.
I think the Dark Knight is going to be a really good movie, it's Batman vs The Joker, Two Icons. I know that me and the girlfriend are going to see it two times at least. Hellboy will have to wait, Batman has been around for a long time with comics,Tv shows, movies. Batman has a HUGE following, not only die-hards, but there is a connection with the mainstream moviegoer as well. Also the new Dark Knight soundtrack is great, if you like the Batman Begins soundtrack you'll love the Dark Knight. Batman vs Joker, going to be one hell of a ride. Dark Knight
Hope Heath wins an Oscar award.
I'm glad that the dark knight is hurting hellboy 2 sales...it's what the hellboy creators deserve for choosing their release date a week before the most anticipated film in the past 3 years gets released
