First Look At Joseph Gordon-Levitt In Rian Johnson's Looper
In Looper, the upcoming science-fiction film from Brick director Rian Johnson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play the same character, Joe. Because the plot involves time travel, the movie has Gordon-Levitt playing the present day version of Joe while Willis is the future version. There's one problem, however: Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks nothing like Bruce Willis.
Earlier today I had the chance to participate in a roundtable interview with both Johnson and Gordon-Levitt who confirmed that in order to make the young actor look more like his older counterpart he had to spend more than two hours in the make-up chair everyday. While you'll be able to read all about it later when I post the interview, for now you can just get a glimpse at what that looks like. Sony has released two new stills from the film which you can see below (click on each one to see it full size in our database).
Gordon-Levitt may have spent a lot of time getting make-up applied each day, but what's so wonderful about these images is that the effect is really subtle. While it still largely looks like the actor, there are obvious changes to his eyes and chin that are very Bruce Willis-esque. Now we'll just have to wait and see if it translates into his performance as well.
The third film from Rian Johnson, the story is set in the near future where Joe (Gordon-Levitt) works as a hitman for the mob, using time travel to complete his executions. Things go totally wrong, however, when he recognizes that his next target is himself in the future. The film will drop on September 28th and for more you can head over to our Blend Film Database.
