Godzilla Remake Release Date Set For 2014
Back in July, a surprise trailer for Legendary Pictures' Godzilla screened at Comic Con, and the announcement was made that Gareth Edwards was set to direct the film that would put the classic Japanese movie monster back on the big screen. Today comes word of the release date for the project, which is set for May of 2014.
TheFilmStage posted the update today, stating that the studio has set the release date for the new take on Godzilla for May 16, 2014. The film is written by David Callaham, David S. Goyer and Max Borensetein, and while the studio has plans for a 3D presentation, there's no word on whether or not it will actually be shot in 3D.
Based on the Comic Con report, it sounds like Edwards is taking a really serious approach to the story, raising the question "If this really happened, what would it be like" and promising a grounded, realistic film that's not especially sci-fi. Given the giant city-crushing monster involved, it'll be interesting to see how this plan is executed.
We still have well over a year to wait for the film, but the date is set, and it's already in the company of a number of anticipated projects. There are a handful of movies set for a May 2014 release, including the Ninja Turtles reboot, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and The Good Dinosaur. Monsters, dinosaurs, turtles, spiders and apes. There may be a non-human pattern developing here...
