Joseph Gordon-Levitt Premieres First Trailer For Don Jon, His Directorial Debut
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Don Jon, formerly known as Don Jon's Addiction, is a debated title here at Cinema Blend. Our own Katey Rich caught the premiere at the Sundance Film Festival back in January and found it to be rather distasteful, calling it "simultaneously banal and offensive." But when Sean O'Connell saw it at SXSW he praised the film's comedy and solid performances (though he did take some issue with the story's third act). You'll be able to judge Don Jon for yourself when it hits theaters on October 18th, but until then we have this brand new trailer, courtesy of Apple.
In his writing/directorial debut, Gordon-Levitt stars as a young Italian, church-going man living in New Jersey who has no problem picking up any woman he likes, but finds more satisfaction from online pornography. This begins to change, however, when he meets Barbara (Scarlett Johansson), a straight-forward, aggressive, beautiful woman who isn't a big fan of his need to look at naked women on the internet. Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Glenne Headly, and Brie Larson co-star in the film, and as you can see above there are also a few cameos from Anne Hathaway, Channing Tatum, and more.
After an incredibly busy 2012, which included performances in The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush, Looper and Lincoln, Gordon-Levitt is only set to appear in one other movie instead of his own: Robert Rodriguez's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. In the movie he will play a cocky gambler named Johnny who gets caught up in the action of characters played by Josh Brolin and Eva Green. That film will be out only a couple weeks before Don Jon, set for release on October 4th.
