Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing Trailer Promises Love And Lies
The Whedonverse expanded last year, when the man behind cult sensations like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog unleashed his epic The Avengers onto movie screens around the world. Now everyone and their mom can call themselves a fan of Joss Whedon, but deep-cut devotees have been eagerly awaiting for his passion project follow-up Much Ado About Nothing.
A modern interpretation of William Shakespeare's classic comedy, the film centers on the battling Beatrice (Amy Acker) and Benedick (Alexis Denisof), who pontificate on love, gender roles, and their growing attraction while attempting to do right by their respective best friends, imbrued in relationship troubles of their own. Shot in secret, Whedon announced the movie's existence to the world with a single image. With the film's release fast approaching, Yahoo has unveiled its first trailer. Check it out below, and see how many recurring Whedon cast members you can spot!
The project was inspired by one of Whedon's nerdier pastimes, staging Shakespeare readings at his house, complete with a cast of very talented friends. Shot in just 12 days, Much Ado About Nothing features Dollhouse's Reed Diamond and Fran Kranz, Firefly's Sean Maher and Nathan Fillion, The Avengers' Greg Clark and Ashley Johnson, and newcomer Jillian Morgese.
Last fall, Whedon shared some details and pics from the production, and a promo poster has also made its way online; you can see it below.
Following positive reviews out of the Toronto International Film Festival (read Katey's here), this indie adaptation soon scored distribution through Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions. Look for it in limited release on June 7th, and in wider release starting June 21st.
