Miss Piggy Politely Asks For 1 Bazillion Facebook Likes From Muppets Fans
After spoofing everything from Green Lantern to David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the marketing department behind the upcoming The Muppets plays it straight in its latest clip, unless by utilizing Facebook, they’re somehow making fun of The Social Network? Truthfully, I’m just not hip enough for this campaign.
But watch the new teaser, which essentially introduces the “Muppet Fan-A-Thon,” an online contest asking fans to “like” the film on its official Facebook page. If, as Piggy promises, they receive more than 1 bazillion “likes” on their page, they’ll start revealing details on advanced screenings for die-hard Muppets fans. Advance screenings are all the rage lately. Lionsgate hosted paid sneaks the Sunday before opening weekend for Warrior to help build buzz. Paramount’s planning something similar for Craig Brewer’s Footloose this Friday. I’m not sure how much more viral marketing The Muppets movie needs. They’ve basically covered their bases leading up to film’s Nov. 23 release date. The last step, no doubt, will be co-stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams driving door-to-door and offering fans a ride to the theater. |
