Peter Jackson Knows Kung Fu![]()
After Lord of the Rings and King Kong Peter Jackson was supposed to do a smaller project to space things out a little bit. Anyone remember Lovely Bones? Instead, he's getting his name thrown around in conjunction with the video game adaptation Halo, and now there's a rumor circulating that he may be doing a Jet Li/Jackie Chan movie.
Yep, that's right. Peter Jackson might be doing Kung Fu. If Kevin Smith can do horror, why not PJ and martial arts? After all, Tarantino doesn't own the genre. Monkeypeaches reports that, strange though it sounds, Peter Jackson's name is being bandied around as the director of choice for an untitled Jackie Chan, Jet Li team up project. The story goes that since his name is being thrown around in connection with it that must mean he's already agreed to be involved, but there's no indication that this is the case. He may just have popped up on someone's wish list, though it's also possible that the long-rumored team-up film's producers are in the process of trying to talk him into it. The movie is supposed to start filming in March or April, so take a minute and try to imagine what a Peter Jackson Kung Fu movie would be like. Can't do it? Me either. It's an idea too strange to fathom. It's so strange… that I think I need to see it. Come on Peter, why not? At this point you've got nothing to prove. Lovely Bones can wait. Do it! Whether he does it or not, Chan and Li are making a fortune to participate. Jet is reportedly being paid a hefty $9 million to play the film's villain, and Jackie Chan has said on the record that, "they're paying us so much money." There's a reason for that. The untitled film is supposed to be a more Americanized action movie, and Jackie only does those when he wants a big paycheck. |
