Roadside Attractions Picks Up Chris Rocks Hair![]()
Who would have expected Chris Rock to become a champion for African-Americans and their hair? The comedian co-wrote, produced and starred in the HBO Films documentary Good Hair, and now Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment have picked up the world rights to the film, meaning Rock's message of hair acceptance will find its way to a large audience.
According to Variety, Rock was inspired to make the film when his daughter asked him, in tears, "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?" In the documentary, directed by Jeff Stilson, Rock talks to people as different as Maya Angelou and Ice-T about the impact their haristyles have had on their lives and their self-esteem. Sure, it might sound frivolous, but do I really need to point to the Barbershop and Beauty Shop to indicate the importance of hair in African-American culture? Yeah, I'm white-- I really have no idea what I'm talking about. But maybe I will after seeing this documentary, which honestly sounds fascinating. Thanks, Chris Rock, for this teachable moment. |
