Ryan Reynolds is doing a movie where he’ll be buried alive. Incidentally this is also probably a pretty good metaphor for where his career was headed before this summer, when he ended up in two number one movies.

Variety says he’s set to star in a film called Buried, in which he’ll play a civilian contractor in Iraq. He’s kidnapped and when he awakens he’s been buried in a coffin in the desert. All he has is a cell phone, a candle, and a knife. At least he’s in the shade and don’t worry X-Men fans he’s shooting the Deadpool spin-off movie before this.

This is a new spin on the Iraq war movie genre. They’ve tried political commentary. No one wanted to see that. Next the action/thriller formula was applied to Iraq, and still nobody wanted to see that. Now Iraq is being turned into a torture porn movie which, I feel certain will be a box office success.
