Star Trek 2 Starting Production On January 15?![]()
After what's felt like about a thousand years of delays, and a lot of vague promises that said the movie would happen but never admitted when, Star Trek 2 may finally be ready to go into production. According to sources over at Trek Movie, J.J. Abrams and company will be back on set on January 15, working from the script by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof that's currently in its third draft.
This puts the movie right on schedule to meet the "sometime in 2013" release date hinted at by Viacom's CEO this week, and also well within the "imminent horizon" that Zachary Quinto promised when asked about the start date last month. For the last two years all of the cast members have talked about being ready to get back to the set whenever Abrams gave the word, and now it looks like it's time for them to start arranging their schedules and suit up again for duty on the Enterprise. Trek Movie got their hands on a few more details about the production, including that ILM has already started work on effects shots, and even more intriguingly, Abrams himself has been scouting locations in Hawaii that could serve as a "jungle planet." He'll also be recreating a "famous Star Trek location" with a museum in Los Angeles, and I'm going to leave it to you Trek diehards out there to help figure out what either of these locations might be. That is, if you don't just go into a state of blissful shock at the news that the sequel is finally, finally ready to get moving. |
