Greg Mottola, the guy who directed Superbad, is striking while the iron is hot. He’s already lined up his next project, and this time he won’t be working for Judd Apatow. JoBlo says that Mottola has signed a deal to direct Adventureland, based on a script he wrote.
The Blo boys say Adventureland is a comedy set in the 80s, following a recent college grad whose plans to vacation in Europe before starting grad school are delayed when his dad gets laid off and he’s forced to, gasp, get a job and earn a living for himself. He gets one a Long Island amusement park, falls in love, and if Mottola is lucky funny things happen.
Since this isn’t a collaboration with Apatow, my interest level is kind of low. I mean, theme park comedy? It just seems too obvious to work. But after the success of Superbad, Mottola now has heat and this thing is bound to get more attention as it develops. If you think kids throwing up on the tilt-a-whirl is hilarious, keep an eye out for Adventureland.
