As the release of The Purge: Anarchy approaches, more of the plot of the film has begun to emerge. The recent featurette we shared revealed a bit of information about the three sets of characters whose lives are about to collide on Purge night. The above clip shows Frank Grillo's character Leo Barnes looking eager to get away from four people caught out in the streets on Purge night.

As we learned in the first Purge film, the story is set in the not-so-distant future where Americans are encouraged to purge their dark urges during a 12-hour stretch of time once a year. On Purge night, all crime is legal. The first film centered on a wealthy family trying to survive a home invasion on Purge night. The sequel will center on a new set of characters, including Frank Grillo's Leo, a man hellbent on revenge after losing his son. And it looks like he's not up for playing the hero to these people... but he's willing to hand out some guns and help them out in exchange for a car.

Those four characters are couple Shane (Zach Gilford) and Liz (Kiele Sanchez) and mother/daughter duo Eva (Carmen Ejogo) and Cali (Zoe Soul). The first preview for The Purge clued us in to Shane and Liz's plight. Their car broke down while they were on their way to a Purge-night lockdown. As for Eva and Cali, we learned in the mentioned featurette that they're not really in the best financial situation, which left them vulnerable to Purgers. Take a look at this clip and see how bad their situation is...

The word "personal" mentioned makes me think they weren't only targeted because they weren't well defended. So there may be a bigger story with Cali and Eva. One that could complicate things for the other people in this developing group.

Moving on to other promotional content, we have this oh-so-patriotic new poster, which uses the American Flag as a backdrop, beyond the words, "United We Purge."

And we've been seeing that "United We Purge" tagline used as a hashtag for The Purge: Anarchy's Twitter promotions...

Creepy stuff!

The Purge: Anarchy arrives in theaters July 18.
