Weekend Box Office - 300

discussioncomments published: 2007-03-19 00:55:32 Author: Scott Gwin

Stylized Spartans in leather thongs battling the hordes of hell reigned supreme yet again at the box office this week. 300, which topped last week's chart with an impressive $70 million slipped to $31 million this week, but that was more than a match for anything else in the theaters.

Wild Hogs hung onto the number two spot as well with $18.8 million and the newly released Premonition was just behind it with $18.0 million. The other two new debuts, horror flick Dead Silence and not-so-funny Chris Rock comedy I Think I Love My Wife were picking at the scraps, taking in 4th and 5th place respectively with less than $10 million each.

Next weekend has a ridiculous number of movies in release as studios apparently try to cram in the last of the March crap and push all its spring break family flicks all at the same time. In the crap category are the unwarrented horror sequel The Hills Have Eyes 2 and the shamefully shameless should-have-been-a-good-action-thriller Shooter. In the Spring Break camp comes family fantasy film The Last Mimsy and not-your-old-school mutant turtle movie TMNT. Somewhere in the middle are drama Reign Over Me and feel-good sports movie Pride. With all those new releases it's bound to be a mish-mash race for the money. Look for the mutant turtles to be battling the mutant hills for the number one spot.
