For about five minutes (in between popping out kids) Reese Witherspoon was the next “it” thing in female starring Hollywood. Then she made Legally Blonde 2 and people started wishing death on her. She hasn’t exactly fallen off the map, but it appears as though she’s been relegated to the Ashley Judd mystery cellar.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Witherspoon is in talks to star in The Reckoning, a supernatural thriller whose name is so unoriginal it has been used more then ten times before. The story follows a New York Times photojournalist in Cambodia watching a team uncover the bones of lost soldiers, and no doubt observing the flies on children’s backs.

The really odd thing about this project is that it’s based on a book that doesn’t exist. The script was adapted from a novel by Jeff Long, a novel which won’t even hit stands until next month. Jeff should have foregone the novel and just written a script.
