When Kong: Skull Island Will Debut New Footage

Kong Skull Island

When the first trailer for Kong: Skull Island dropped, it felt like excitement for the new reboot skyrocketed. Thanks to a slow trickle of details, that excitement may have gone down since then, so Legendary is looking to get the hype back. A new trailer for Kong: Skull Island is ready to be released, and it'll be hitting the internet really soon. Check out the official announcement below.

Thanks to the official Kong: Skull Island Twitter account, we now know that the second trailer will by gracing out the internet feeds four days from now. That's right, we'll be able to get a new taste of Kong as soon as next week. Unfortunately, the teaser doesn't offer anything too exciting other than the announcement. It plays like a film reel, fitting nicely into the films 70's era setting. There's the standard shot of helicopters flying through Skull Island, as well as a what looks like a protective fog around the island. The teaser also begins with the map of Skull Island, which was revealed with a poster given out at New York Comic Con.

This announcement comes on the heels of the first full-on reveal of the new King Kong by Entertainment Weekly earlier this week. They provided the official image of the classic movie monster, and this time around he's more than just a giant gorilla. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts set about to make a creature who was more mythical and out of this world and by the looks of it, he succeeded. This version of King Kong is the biggest that has ever been put on screen, towering well over the Peter Jackson version.

Set in the 1970's, a team of explorers enters an uncharted island in the Pacific that holds amazing beauty but terrible danger. The group unwittingly finds themselves venturing into the territory of Kong, a giant ape-like creature that probably doesn't take kindly to strangers. Not many plot details are known at this time, although the MONARCH organization from Godzilla has some sort of role to play. It's unknown if King Kong is the primary antagonist or if there is a secret second creature that he has to fight; we'll likely know more when that second trailer drops. Kong: Skull Island will introduce the all new King Kong, who will then go on to fight Legendary's other iconic movie monster, Godzilla, in a future movie.

Kong: Skull Island is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy, and Derek Connolly. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly. Kong: Skull Island will release in theaters on March 10, 2017.
