Women Can’t Resist Colin Farrell In Sofia Coppola’s Smoldering New The Beguiled Trailer

Being Colin Farrell amidst a cast full of beautiful and talented actresses sounds like a wonderful place to be. It's possible that could be true for the actor, but for the character he plays, it's not nearly as much fun. The Beguiled finds a soldier recovering from injury is a house inhabited entirely by women, but it turns out that's not nearly as much fun as it sounds.

The Beguiled follows Colin Farrell as a Northern soldier during the Civil War who is found injured and taken in by the women at an all-girls school. While they nurse him back to health, it appears that more than one of the girls becomes taken with the soldier. Such a setting would be dramatic enough on its own, but the trailer shows us that in this case the situation will get absolutely terrifying. The women don't seem to deal with this change in their lives very well.

Nicole Kidman looks to play the head of the school, which also includes Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning as students. It's difficult to tell exactly who is taking advantage of who in the movie. Colin Farrell looks to be a willing participant in these affairs, even though he is obviously not entirely well, and is at least somewhat at the mercy of his caretakers. At the end of the trailer, however, it appears that something awful has happened to him as it closes with him screaming and swearing at them while the women all just look on ominously.

The Beguiled is actually a remake of a 1971 film starring Clint Eastwood in the male lead role. Sofia Coppola wrote the new screenplay along with directing the new film. It appears that the basic setup of the movie has remained the same. It will be interesting to see if the new script has resulted in any significant changes. The Eastwood version certainly had some disturbing twists that this trailer would seem to imply will still take place.

The cast is certainly top notch and will likely be the thing that carries this film if it is successful. The Eastwood version of The Beguiled was a financial bomb, but the film has been considered to be much better in retrospect. Perhaps the remake will be able to get its due now, rather than waiting. The Beguiled is set for release June 23.
