Kevin Smith Wants To Direct Another Superhero TV Show, Here's What We Know

The past few years have seen what previously seemed impossible become reality. Namely, that a TV series based on comic book characters could be a critical and financial successes. Superhero TV shows have been popping up like weeds lately, from the CW's Arrowverse, to both ABC and Netflix's Marvel adaptations. As such, actors and directors have been chomping at the bit to be apart of each universe, especially as they continue to grow in both scale and budget. One such director is comic book aficionado Kevin Smith. Smith has already directed an episode of The Flash, and now is ready to dip his toes into another TV universe. Namely, Netflix's Daredevil.

Kevin Smith recently sat down with the good folks at IGN for an interview about his various projects. It was there that Smith revealed his thirst to co-direct an episode of Daredevil, and explained why he's the right guy for the job.

I feel very at home in that Flash world, so much so that I'd love to do the others. I even told [Marvel chief creative officer] Joe Quesada - we worked on Daredevil together back in the day, I wrote it, he drew it - I said, 'Dude, I want to direct Daredevil, man. That'd be wild to be able to do it in real-life - let's co-direct it, that'd be cool, just like we did the book. We could co-direct an episode and then, like, take the passion from the page to the screen. I'm going to try and make that Daredevil thing happen.

Honestly, this does seem like a match made in heaven.Kevin Smith knows comics, and definitely knows his Daredevil. If Netflix ends up producing a third season of the drama, Smith might be just the guy to step in and helm an episode or two for the streaming service.

Kevin Smith's experience with the Daredevil property is pretty vast. In 1999 Smith wrote an eight-issue arc for the Daredevil comic books, titled Guardian Devil. This series revolves around Matt Murdock having to suddenly care for an infant who may be either the messiah or the anti-christ. While this storyline is most likely not a possibility for the Netflix series, there is always an overarching theme of morality and catholicism within the Daredevil mythos. And having studied and written for Matt, Karen, and Foggy personally, he knows the psyche of the main characters of Netflix's Daredevil very well.

Additionally, Kevin Smith was also involved in the somewhat lackluster 2003 Daredevil movie, starring Ben Affleck. Due to his role as a writer for the comics, he was given a pretty substantial cameo in the film. He played a forensic investigator cheekily named Jack Kirby (after the Marvel legend who created so many characters with Stan Lee) who got to check out the hero's awesome weapons.

With Kevin Smith so heavily invested in the Daredevil character, he would probably do a great job as a director for the Netflix series. What do you think of Smith directing Daredevil? Sound off in the comments below.
