Melrose Place and Friday Night Lights actress Brooke Langton has signed on for an upcoming guest starring role on another hit series. The actress will join Fox’s hit procedural, Bones, in Season 8, where she will appear in an episode as Bones’ long-ago murdered mother, Ruth Brennan, who was killed on the run just a couple of years after she abandoned Bones as a child.

This isn’t the first time Brennan’s mother has popped up in Fox’s popular series. Honestly, it’s pretty amazing how often a murdered woman can still manage to appear in a series. However, despite being the second time the character will appear on the show, it is the first time Brooke Langton will take on the role. Formerly, when Brennan’s mom played a role in the series, she was played by Halloween H20: 20 Years Later actress Larisa Miller. Since that was all the way back in 2007, it’s no surprise a new actress is stepping into the role.

Last time we encountered Bones’ mother, it was via a flashback. This time around, TV Guide is reporting Bones will have a bad experience and will see her mom in the flesh. Her scientific roots will make it difficult for her to believe the experience, but she will learn something about her mom that is impossible to explain. There’s no airdate set for the episode, but it sounds like it will be an exciting one.

Fox’s Bones airs on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
