Community: Pillows And Blankets - Best Episode Yet?

Last night, Community aired what was arguably one of the best episodes of the series, turning a campus-wide war of pillows vs. blankets into a Ken Burns-like documentary. “Pillows and Blankets" may have even topped “Modern Warfare.” It came close anyway. The episode incorporated Troy and Abed’s passion for forts made of bedding with their impending falling out, which was only a matter of time... unfortunately.

Using captured video footage, interviews, animated maps, texts, bad photography, emails and other methods of social networking, the episode captured the highlights and lowlights of this unfortunate campus-wide war. If you didn’t see it, here’s the full episode...

The Greendale war between the United Forts of Pillowtown and the Legit Republic of Blanketsburg was a feather-bath the likes of which no community college has ever seen. And our favorite characters were all behaving as we might predict they would, which included Britta taking bad pictures, Jeff embracing a “Ferris Buellerian attempt to delay school,” and Annie playing the role of nurse to fallen soldiers.

And all the while, Troy and Abed’s friendship was imploding. But I believe this incident will only make them stronger, having reunited in the end, thanks in part to Jeff’s imaginary friendship hats, and their own unwillingness to walk away from one another.

The emphasis on war puts the episode in line with "Modern Warfare" and the battle of paintballs, but the documentary format took it up a notch. Feathers replaced paintballs and in the end, there was a happy ending... though I'll still be eager to see where Troy and Abed's relationship goes from here. In the meantime, if there’s one thing we can learn from all of this, it’s that Greendale campus buildings have really confusing names...

I'm leaning toward declaring "Pillows and Blankets" to be Community's best episode so far. What do you think?
