Fox has the comedy series currently titled New Girl set to air on Tuesday nights, following Glee. New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel, who plays Jess, a woman in her late twenties who moves in with a bunch of guys following a bad breakup. More details and some photos from this new Fox comedy ahead!
New Girl brings Zooey Deschanel to the small screen in a starring role, and to the same network as her sister Emily (star of Bones). Deschanel’s involvement is enough to give this one some early appeal, however having recently watched the film No Strings Attached, I’m more intrigued than I might have been previously. Not only does New Girl star Jake Johnson, who appeared in No Strings Attached alongside stars Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, but this new Fox series is written by Liz Meriwether, who penned the screenplay for the film. I expected Strings to be a fairly predictable rom-com and in many respects it was, but I still found the story charming and the dialog surprisingly fresh and funny. If Meriwether brings some of that to New Girl, we’re in for a treat.
Below is Fox’s synopsis for the series and further down are some photos. It should be noted that while Fox has Damon Wayans Jr. set to play Roomate #3, Coach however with ABC renewing Happy Endings, it’s likely that Fox will need to recast him, which is unfortunate as he’d be another big reason to look forward to New Girl.
NEW GIRL (working title) is a new single-camera comedy from Liz Meriwether (“No Strings Attached”) that features a young ensemble cast and takes a fresh and outrageous look at modern male/female relationships. JESS DAY (Zooey Deschanel, (500) Days of Summer) is an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20s who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn’t. Although she’s dorky and awkward, she’s comfortable in her own skin. More prone to friendships with women, she’s not used to hanging with the boys – especially at home.
New Girl will begin airing Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on Fox this Fall 2011.
