Apparently, it's all Lady Gaga all the time over here at TV Blend. A few days back, we brought you news on her upcoming Madison Square Garden special and then reports of her closing this season of Saturday Night Live. I had hoped we could take at least a week off from the publicity-hungry songstress, but where there's smoke, there's Gaga.
Interscope Records announced via its Twitter that the singer's new video for the song Judas would premiere on American Idol during the week of May 2nd. The popular singing competition is always a hot spot for celebrities to randomly show up. Already this season, the show has trotted out everyone from Hulk Hogan to Iggy Pop. Gaga's just the latest, though her appearance is likely to generate more buzz because well, she's Lady Gaga and buzz is her entire game. According to MTV, “Judas” guest stars Norman Reedus as the title character and features Lady Gaga herself as Mary Magdalene. Director Laurieann Gibson has publically acknowledged she is a Christian and tried not to blaspheme in the video, but something tells me some sort of controversy will arise. Not too much though. One would assume American Idol executives have seen the final cut of the video. I'm sure they'll be pleased about any extra ratings the premiere may bring, but there's no way they'd disenfranchise a large segment of their audience by openly mocking the Savior around Easter. That's just bad business for a program that typically crushes in the Bible Belt. |
