Lifetime Passes On Melanie Griffith Pilot American Housewife

Those who were looking forward to getting a closer look at the evolution of Melanie Griffith’s collagen-injected lips on Lifetime’s starring vehicle for her, American Housewife will have to wait for her to find another gig. Lifetime has decided to pass on the project, which was executive produced by Melanie and husband Antonio Banderas. Even Hollywood power couples get turned down occasionally it seems.

American Housewife was given a pilot order back in October, and starred Griffith as the wife of a wealthy politician, living the good life in a rich neighborhood. The story turns into the perfect Lifetime plot when Griffith’s character starts hearing an inner voice. But it seems her inner voice has been silenced; Lifetime has passed on the pilot says Deadline. They also recently passed on another pilot, the Eric Stoltz/Ally Sheedy dramedy Modern Love.

Lifetime is still riding high on the success of the Jennifer Love Hewitt fronted series, The Client List, so they can afford to take their time and be picky about what they’ll add to the lineup next. The Client List debuted to the strongest numbers for a Lifetime series in three years, since Drop Dead Diva premiered. So, prostitutes are in at Lifetime, and housewives are out. Meanwhile, Hewitt’s Party of Five co-star Neve Campbell has a project with Lifetime as well, an Amish crime drama called Sworn to Silence. No word on when that tv movie/backdoor pilot will air, if in fact it will.
