In two weeks, ABC’s The Middle explores the world of musical theater, and is also set to include not one, but two former Saturday Night Live stars. We have some details and an excellently green photo from the episode, which should give you some indication of what musical will be featured in the episode.
Norm MacDonald is set to appear in the episode, titled "The Play," playing Mike’s brother Rusty, who is described as “unreliably quirky.” Brick has plans to bring him to school for “Special Friends Day” and the results are disastrous. Meanwhile, a theater company is putting on a production of “The Wizard of Oz.” The bonus is that all kids are being cast automatically as munchkins, which means Sue’s guaranteed a part. Naturally, problems eventually arise, which could result in her getting cut from the plan. Frankie also manages to land a role, which explains the adorable photo below.
Chris Kattan is also among the guest-stars. As he randomly pops up in this series, his appearance is somewhat less exciting than MacDonalds, but it does make the episode a very-mini SNL reunion of sorts as their stints on the NBC sketch comedy series did overlap for a good chunk of time.
The Middle's "The Play" is scheduled to air WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET) on ABC.
