Matt Stone and Trey Parker, along with Comedy Central and Viacom, are being sued for supposedly stealing material from a viral YouTube video. Brownmark Films is suing for a scene in the South Park episode, “Canada on Strike,” where Butters recreates the “What What (In the Butt)” video. The original video has gotten tens of millions of views.

Clearly the boys at South Park will defend this as parody. In fact, the show has a history of doing frame by frame parodies without an issue. Timmy and Jimmy had a classic reinactment of the Roddy Piper and Keith David fight from They Live that owes much of its brilliance to being a direct redo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Brownmark Films is seeking to get the show removed from re-broadcast and online streaming, along with statutory damages. This comes not long after Stone and Parker apologized for directly lifting dialogue from a College Humor video for their Inception parody episode.
