VH1 Orders 60 Episodes Of Pop Up Video, World Celebrates

Finally! Cable network VH1 announced this morning its bringing back old favorite Pop Up Video. The classic music video show has laid dormant for ten years, squandering opportunity after opportunity to lampoon idiotic ideas and absurd excesses, but with the network imposed hibernation over, creator Woody Thompson can once again pass along interesting tidbits and snarky retorts in bubble format. The world once again makes sense.

Why the hell was this even cancelled in the first place? Most programs eventually run the risk of getting old or appearing dated, but the basic concept of Pop Up Video was that it changed with the times. Production notes and pithy commentary never go out of style. I feel like we were needlessly robbed of ten years.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the general format of Pop Up Video will remain the same, but various social media devices like polling and internet links will be added to bond with a new generation of music video consumers. In addition, the show will also begin commenting on rap for the first time. Depending on your age, you may not remember this, but VH1 used to only play pop and adult-friendly rock music. It was truly the over thirty network. Then that chick from Flavor Of Love shit on the stairs and ruined any standards the network had.

To start with, VH1 has ordered sixty half hour episodes. They’ll begin airing this fall. Here’s a look at a classic Rick Astley Pop Up Video
