Boardwalk Empire may be off the air for the next few months, but we can still revisit some of the technical wizardry that made the first season of the show possible. Yes, the entire look of the show is very old-fashioned and polished, but there's a lot of CGI and digital matting that goes into recreating the Atlantic City of old. There's a replica boardwalk on a set somewhere in Brooklyn just waiting for season 2, but what about the vistas and the giant skyscrapers that make up the rest of the town?

Brainstorm Digital, the Brooklyn-based special effects company responsible for many of Boardwalk Empire's effects, has posted a video to Vimeo showing off some of their most impressive work, to the foam models they built to recreate the boardwalk to how they transformed a perfectly healthy actor into a war veteran who had lost half his face. It's edited in the same polished, mesmerizing way as the show, and will make you antsy for the second season to come back and wow you all over again. Check it out below, and make sure your kids aren't around so they're not scared by the half-faced man the way his own kid is.
